One of our publishers says : Print is still not dead. The publishing industry was built on print and, although it may never return to what it once was, opportunities still exist in the medium. Because the print sector lacks an accountable data mechanism, print magazines are difficult vehicles for advertising sales tracking.

But print magazines are great branding and marketing tools that can help publishers support their digital presence. Plus, print still draws strong audiences in art, travel, and lifestyle titles as people like the sensory experiences that glossy, colorful, tactile printed pages deliver. And some digital-only magazines are bridging the gap between digital content and print branding with digital covers.

FD - EUROPEAN NATIONAL NEWSPAPER OF THE YEAR

 
In total, 182 newspapers from 25 countries took part in the 20th European Newspaper Award which took place at the end of November. The 16 jury members from eight countries: Denmark, Norway, Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland and Germany. Their decision was to award Financieele Dagblad as European Newspaper of The Year - category National Newspapers.
 
The jury statement read:

The FD newspaper format is slightly smaller than the classic tabloid format. The newspaper is printed on salmon-coloured paper. This emphasizes the character of a fi nancial newspaper. The layout is very relaxed. Alternative story forms with infographics and powerful visualization are oft en used. At the weekend, the magazine “P – Persoonlijk” will be added, covering design, travel, technology, mobility, fashion and culture. In its combination of print and online subscription, FD is a successful model for Europe‘s newspapers.
